Atlas Sound is the solo alter-ego of Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox. A collection of songs recorded during the spring and summer of 2006, Fractal Trax doesn’t stray stylistically afield from the shimmering drone-pop of Cox’s main project.

Instead, these pieces read like Deerhunter in miniature, combining Cox’s trademark delay-riddled vocal affectations with twinkling acoustic guitars, whirring tape manipulations, and phalanxes of stuttering, echo-treated drums. Committed to 4-track tape by Cox alone in his bedroom, this subtle avantpop invites comparisons to the sonic environments of Brian Eno’s pop records — albeit hazier, homespun, and thoroughly cognizant of the last thirty or so years of electronic-leaning sound-fuckery.

V. Fajito and R. Mexico are Mexcellent. They live in Atlanta. They play in other bands (the Beach, Celephais). They have real names. They favor panchos, DJ Assault, American sushi, the Dead C, non-quantization, Hot 107.9, Test Department, Rick Rock beats, Z’ev, Oomp Camp TV, dubstep in theory but usually not in execution, robo-Nikes, and occasionally People Like Us. They sound like a stream-of-consciousness clusterfuck of: (A) all of the above (2) all at once.

Cornbread Jungle was recorded during the course of 2006, using the following gear: Desktop greeting bells, sliding aluminum desk drawer, contact microphones, some synthesizers, some guitars, a drum kit, YouTube, and the cast of the musical Chicago.
