Missing Orders

Heya folks,

We are aware there have been many missing/late orders lately (and not so lately). We’re sorry guys, we’re trying to keep up. We appreciate our customers very much and we’re certainly not here to rip anyone off. If you have ordered a record from us and your order hasn’t arrived, please email brad@hossrecords.com and we’ll do our best to rectify the situation as quickly as possible (with some added items because you deserve it). Thanks for your support.

MI AMI’s Towers Fall is First in our Techno Series

Comprised of two former members of Washington, DC’s Black Eyes (guitarist/singer
Daniel Martin-McCormick and bassist Jacob Long) along with drummer Damon Pal-
ermo,  San Francisco’s Mi Ami have spent the past couple of years asserting themselves
as a caterwauling dub-punk force, evidenced by both their recent scorched-earth tour-
dates with Thank You and their full-length debut Watersports (Quarterstick/Touch and
Go).

For the first volume of our new “Techno” series,  Mi Ami take a lateral step away from the visceral punch of their live show toward something almost purely electronic. Using Shackleton’s now-seminal “Blood On My Hands” as a source/jumping-off point, “Towers Fall” marries the band’s slowly unfolding polyrhythmic grooves and washes of oceanic bass to a long-form synth-and-drum machines workout. “Towers Fall (Cassette Mix)” — perhaps best seen as a dub-style ‘version’ rather than a traditional remix — revels in beats dirtier and more acid-tinged, but still indebted to the past twenty years of the dancefloor diaspora: Chicago house, Berlin minimal, U.K. dubstep — “techno”, however you define it.

These Are Powers Announce Spring Tour; Reveal Details On Upcoming Taro Tarot EP

Hot on the heels of the Terrific Season LP, These Are Powers unleash the Taro Tarot EP diving even further into their self-dubbed “ghost punk”. While the influence of the future primitivism of early Sonic Youth, Mars, and Swans is undeniable, the band breathes new life into the post-punk sound in a delightfully scary fashion bringing it to the present. Taro Tarot will be released in April, but look for it earlier here and on the merch table.

HOSS PARTY ‘06

Thanks for coming out to HOSS PARTY O6 at the Syrup Room in Brooklyn this past Friday. The Slits and Erase Errata made a guest appearance, as their Todd P Not-CMJ venue got shut down, making it one big party. Despite technical difficulties, HOSSies R.Mexico, Leb-Laze w/Zano, Lexie Mountain, Wzt Hearts, and Food for Animals put on a show that blew the cranial circuitry of the over 300 attendees. Hey, if Lexie can incite like that without fully functional electronics, you should be ashamed.

Lichens and Lexie Added to Split Series

It’s been a busy summer for us HOSSies: The Jason Forrest/Ricky Rabbit split is now available - get it here and get it clear, Creative Loafing ran a feature on HOSS, WZT Heart’s “Heat Chief” got voted Baltimore City Paper’s Best Album of the Year, we got the ears of The Wire and Dusted, and the helping hands of Revolver and Thrill Jockey for distribution.
Thought it’s sad to see summer go so early in DC, we’re putting together the perfect soundtrack for Fall - the upcoming Robert Lowe (Lichens) / Lexie Mountain LP will be the latest addition to our split series. We hope to celebrate its debut at a possible off-CMJ show. Hope to see you there!

Wherefore art thou, colored vinyl?

There’s a colored vinyl shortage (think “Hooligans have taken over the Cap’n Crunch factory, and now all the crunchberries are blue!” kinda ordeal), and as a result the WZT HEARTS “Heat Chief” LP will now come in a limited edition of 100 white (not brown, as previously reported), 400 black.
JASON FORREST/RICKY RABBIT will ship with 100 on clear, 400 on black vinyl.
WZT Hearts will be available for order this week (7/23), with the J-Fo/RickRab split available sometime early August.

EXCEPTER/LEB-LAZE Split Now Available

the EXCEPTER/LEB-LAZE split 12″ is now available through revolver, or directly through us. You can also find it at Criminal Records or Wax n Facts in Atlanta, and Crooked Beat Records in DC. The JASON FORREST/RICKY RABBIT split will be out next month, followed shortly thereafter by the WZT HEARTS full-length LP “Heat Chief.”
